An ongoing class to go deeper in our understanding of the Buddhist Path as practiced within the Triratna Community. Includes talks, discussions, pujas and weekly meditation.

We are currently exploring different facets of our founder and teacher, Sangharakshita.

We mark the nearest Wednesday to the full moon with a special ritual.

Sangha Night May 8

Form and Emptiness: the Glass Art of Loretta Yang Huishan

This an unusual Sangha Night where we explore how art expresses the Dharma. Can a sculpture communicate form and emptiness?

Andrew Brewerton, our guest speaker, will share his love of the work of the Chinese Buddhist sculptress, Loretta Yang Huishan, who creates beautiful Dharmic sculptures in glass and crystal. Now in her seventies, she is currently working on a 3 metre glass statue of Kuan Yin. The evening will include a slide show and opportunities for questions and discussion.

Now living in Shrewsbury, Andrew Brewerton is former Principal of Dartington College of Arts and was Dean of Art and Design at Wolverhampton University. He also was Distinguished Professor of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and developed the first academic glass programme in China. Andrew has a detailed understanding of glass design and manufacturing and a longstanding interest in Buddhism. His books have been published in England and China and he is a published poet. This evening is also open to anyone among your friends or family who is interested in this theme.
