Buddha Day Weekend

Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May 2025

A special weekend of celebration

On the weekend of 10/11 May, we are going to mark two auspicious occasions: the Buddha’s Awakening, which first opened the doors to the Deathless some 2,600 years ago, and the tenth anniversary of our own beautiful centre. The highlight of Saturday 10 May will be one of our ever-popular plant sales, hosted by Hev, Maggie and Sue, between 11 and 2, and there will also be other notable events, including a presentation of the original conversion project in the afternoon and a short talk by our MP, Julia Buckley. There will also be meditation taster sessions and other treats to be announced nearer the time.

On Sunday 11 May, we will be celebrating Buddha Day, with meditation, ritual and a Dharma talk – and this year, Kate and Akasharaja are hoping to put on a play to recount the Buddha’s Awakening. We’re looking for people to get involved in this – folk who, in Kate’s words, want to have fun and are willing to look silly – so, if you’re interested, please get in touch with Akasharaja akasaraja@gmail.com

Saturday 10th

10am  Drop-in meditation as usual

11-2pm  Plant sale, with coffee, cake and soup available, taster meditation sessions

2pm  Slideshow presenting the original building project and some words from Julia Buckley MP

3pm  Break

3.30pm  Meditation and ritual

5pm  Close

Sunday 11th (Buddha Day)

10am  Doors open 

10.15am  Welcome and meditation

11am  Short break

11.15am  Talk by Akasharaja: “Why did the Buddha leave us? (Or did he? Or was he ever there?)”

12pm  Groups

1pm  Lunch (please bring veggie/vegan food to share)

2.30pm  Play, directed by Kate Weston, followed by a break

3.30pm   Meditation and ritual

4.30pm  Close
