Buddhism is often described as the threefold path of Ethics, Meditation and Wisdom. In this course we will look at Buddhist ethics and why they are named first in the threefold path.
Buddhist ethics is not about conforming to a set of conventions: not about ‘being good’ in order to gain material, social or religious rewards. Instead, living ethically springs from the awareness that other people are essentially no different from us. It is therefore both an expression of, and a means of cultivating, positive emotions like friendliness, well-wishing and compassion.
The aim of this course is not to explain the nature or scope or theory or history of Buddhist ethics, but to invite course participants to take on an active and effective ethical practice that will change their life.
This course is based on Subhadramati's book Not About Being Good.
No need to book just come along on the first evening.
The course is run on a Dana (Generosity) basis, suggested donations £60 to £90 for the course, this can be paid by card or cash at the centre in part or in full.
