In this six-week course we will be exploring what it means to embody 'authentic masculinity' through the lens of the Buddha’s teachings. We'll examine gender roles and stereotypes, explore the idea of "emotional courage", and consider the question of responsible and ethical action in the light of the Buddhist teachings on karma. We'll also be examining the notions of discipline and restraint as pathways to freedom, considering what it means to experience true brotherhood and connection and approaching the crucial issue of what it is to lead a meaningful life.
The aim is not to provide therapy or counselling. Nor do you have to be a Buddhist to take part. We are hoping to create the conditions for meaningful dialogue about what it means to live well as a man in the modern age.
The sessions will include meditation, short talks, reflective exercises and conversation.
